Home / Publications / “Reconstruction” of Gaza after the Genocide: A Critique of Projects Entrenching the Occupation and an Entry Point for a Liberatory Alternative
Published as part of the work of the “Regional Solidarity Forum”, this policy brief was co-authored by Rabie Nasser of the Syrian Center for Policy Research (SCPR), Hala Ali of Stars of Hope, and the Movement for Economic, Development and Ecological Justice (MenaFem).
The paper examines the reconstruction projects currently being proposed, how they entrench Gaza as an arena of conflict, and how they undermine the foundations needed to ensure that the reconstruction process is rooted in the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and in the principles of accountability, redress, and the preservation of collective memory. It proposes a multidimensional liberatory alternative and discusses the prospects for its realization.
The Regional Solidarity Forum is a collective of civil society actors from the SWANA region, united by anti-colonial, multidisciplinary, participatory, transformative, feminist, and intersectional visions and approaches that strive for social justice. The Forum aims to reclaim political participation, dismantle colonial narratives, and envision alternatives for a more just, inclusive, and equitable future.
